The market shortlist
Updated August 14, 2026
A call gets analyzed long before any carrier has quoted anything. The moment its business type matches a class already in your appetite guide, ProClose does not just note that a match exists, it builds a ranked shortlist of exactly which of your own markets to call first, and gets the packet and a draft email ready to go with it.
#Where it shows up
This lives in the internal Analysis panel on a discovery brief, the deck built from a call alone with no carrier quote yet. You reach it either by clicking Analyze the call right after a call finishes transcribing, which opens the Analysis panel directly, or by clicking Build proposal with a call pulled and no quote loaded, which opens the presenter, from where the same shortlist is one click away on the Analysis button. If nothing about the call matched a class in your Vault, the panel says so plainly instead of guessing at one.
#Ranked against the state the risk is in, not your agency's
This is the detail that matters most. ProClose ranks your appointed markets against the state the property or operation is actually in, read off the call, not the state your agency happens to sit in. A market that is not appointed where the risk sits cannot write it at all, so that gets surfaced first, not buried as a tiebreaker. A market not appointed in that state is pushed to the bottom of the list and labeled plainly: "Cannot write this state."
If every market under the class is blocked that way, the panel opens with a hard warning that nobody on file is appointed in that state, and treats the list as a starting point for who to ask rather than who to actually send the risk to. If a class has fewer than three markets on file at all, a separate warning says the guide is probably out of date for that class, so you get an honest signal instead of false confidence from a thin list.
#Take it to these three
The top three ranked markets are presented first, under "Take it to these three," each with the reasoning behind its ranking (appointed in the risk's state, a single named carrier rather than "multiple," a direct contact, an email or phone on file), plus Copy contact and Draft email buttons. Anything ranked below the top three still shows, under "Also appointed, if those three pass," in case the first three do not pan out.
#What to ask for, and what is still missing
Two more lists round out the shortlist:
- Ask them to quote. Coverage lines built from what actually came up on the call, each one tied to the reason it is on the list, for example commercial property because a building came up, or abuse and molestation coverage because children on the premises came up. Limits are deliberately left blank, since a limit nobody has agreed to is a guess, not a recommendation.
- Not established on the call. What the call did not cover, current carrier, what they pay today, loss history, who signs, and so on, worth nailing down before you submit.
#The submission PDF and the carrier email
Download the submission PDF builds a real PDF file and downloads it directly, no print dialog involved, covering the top three markets, what is being asked for, property and operations details, anything worth flagging, loss history, and what is still outstanding, ready to attach to an email.
Draft email, next to any one of the three markets, opens the same drafting window used everywhere else in ProClose that touches outside communication: subject and body prefilled for that specific market, with Open in mail and Copy the email buttons. Nothing is ever sent from here. The draft opens in your own mail client, or copies to your clipboard, for you to review and send yourself.
