Edit fees and totals

Updated July 11, 2026

Every priced proposal stamps a Total amount due on the Premium summary slide, and ProClose keeps that number honest. Change any line that feeds it, a carrier premium amount, your agency fee, a policy fee, and the total recalculates automatically. If the proposal also has a side-by-side comparison against the client's current policy, that comparison's verdict recalculates right along with it, so you can never end up with a total that says one thing and a comparison that says another.

#Where you can change a fee

There are three places to make this kind of edit, and all three land on the same number.

On the canvas

Enter edit mode (click Edit, watch it become Editing) and click directly into a premium line's amount on the Premium summary slide. Retype it. The Total amount due line updates immediately, and if a comparison exists, its "cheaper than the current policy" verdict updates with it. This is the one canvas edit that writes back into the proposal's underlying data rather than staying on the slide only, see Edit slides on the canvas for more on that distinction.

In the outline

Open Outline and find the Premium summary group in the left pane. Each premium line, including your agency fee and any policy fee, is its own field. Edit the amount and the outline's Total amount due (auto) display updates instantly, no delay. The label says "auto" on purpose, it is a computed read-out, not a field you type a total into directly. The full deck, including the actual Premium summary slide, catches up a short moment after you stop typing. See The outline editor for how that timing works.

From the assistant thread

In the outline's Assistant thread, you can type a request like "set the agency fee to $650." This is one of the small set of commands the assistant genuinely acts on today, it finds the matching fee line, overwrites the amount, and recalculates the total. The assistant confirms back with the new amount and the new total. See The proposal assistant for the full list of what it can do in this release.

#What stays in sync

On any proposal that has both a premium and a side-by-side comparison against a current policy, editing a fee or premium line updates two things together:

  • The Total amount due on the Premium summary slide.
  • The "Annual cost" row and the verdict line on the side-by-side comparison, for example whether the deck reads as lower cost and broader coverage, or broader coverage than the expiring policy.

If a proposal has no comparison, for example a new-business deck with no current policy to compare against, editing a fee still updates the total, there is just no comparison verdict to keep in sync.

#A word on the numbers themselves

Your agency fee is stamped automatically from your Vault's fee schedule based on the program type, so most proposals never need a manual fee edit at all, the deck already asserts, on the Premium summary slide, that policy and agency fees are added automatically and never get left off. Editing a fee here changes it for this one proposal. It does not change your Vault's default fee schedule for future proposals, that is a separate edit made on the Vault page.
